Prenatal Yoga
Yoga is increasingly recommended to pregnant women because it is a gentle way of maintaining or gaining fitness while reducing anxiety with breathing and relaxation techniques. Helen uses yoga practices that are safest and most suitable for pregnant women. Yoga breathing techniques have been selected and adapted to expand women’s breathing capacity in gentle and effective ways that carry through to labour and the postnatal period to promote physical and emotional wellbeing.
I believe in addressing the needs of each woman and baby in supportive small classes.
Benefits of Prenatel Yoga include;
• More Energy
• Increased Strength, confidence and stamina
• Improved posture, stability and balance
• Better breathing
• Improved Sleep
• Relief from physical, mental and emotional tension.
• Bond with baby (babies)

Mother & Baby Yoga
Offering continuity from pregnancy to the postnatal year has been greatly appreciated from new mums. Original sets of yoga practices, many of which are now mainstream, are uniquely suited to help you regain your core-strength, your figure and overall fitness after birth by restoring tone to the deep muscles of the pelvis and lower back.‘Steps to postnatal recovery’ can be started at any time after birth. They are easy and can be done in bed or on a carpet in a few minutes daily. Each step ‘closes’ the body and re-knits abdominal muscles using yoga breathing, with the additional effect of inducing deeper sleep and reducing postnatal fatigue. Babies are included in postnatal yoga classes: interactive mother and baby yoga moves promote ‘active bonding’ in age appropriate ways through the first weeks and months.More dynamic yoga poses and moves are also offered to make a safe transition to general yoga or other forms of exercise with long term benefits for women’s health.

Kids Yoga
Yoga is a fun way for children to develop important skills in a supportive, non-competitive environment. In yoga for kids classes, there is a balance
between spontaneity and structure, so that kids learn to listen to each other as well as express themselves creatively.
Benefits of kids yoga ;
• Improves strength and flexibility
• Increases self confidence and builds positive self image
• Increases emotional strength
• Nourishes creativity
• Increases sensory awareness and body awareness
• Helps build concentration

Why Yoga?
'Yoga teaches us to cure what need not be endured and endure what cannotbe cured.'
~ B.K.S. Iyengar
Time out
In our hectic modern world many people are taking ‘time out’ to practice yoga - a system of philosophy that originated in India 5,000 years ago. Everyone can practice yoga, regardless of age, sex or ability. My aim whilst teaching students is to increase flexibility, mobility and strength whilst bringing the student in tune with their own body and focus inward. When teaching, I encourage students to learn to feel their own bodies, to respect them, to breathe and to develop a sense of inner integrity. We need to work with what we have, where we are, the conditions in which we are practising (it’s no good doing a Greek beach practice in a cold village hall), our state of mind, the time of the month, the amount of stress we are under - or not. There are many ways of working.
a holistic approach to body, mind and spirit
Yoga can provide us with the ‘tools’ to cope with the challenges of daily life. Yoga can also complement medical science and therapy for specific conditions. The muscles of asana are informed by the breath of pranayama, and the breath itself is, if uncontrolled, fed by the mind. And the mind is a tricky monkey. In Patanjali’s Raja Yoga system, the moral observances of the Yamas and Niyamas are mentioned first, as if they are the first two rungs on the ladder of progress. However, in reality they can all be recognised as operating on a self-supporting system: by doing asana we regulate the breath which returns us to a calmer state of mind in which the practices of non-stealing and self-restraint are part of a far more natural order than we, when caught up in the daily inconsistencies of modern life, can comprehend. Dharana (sustained concentration), Dhyana (meditation) and yes, even a glimpse of Samadhi (enlightenment) can be experienced in the sincere practice of Trikonasana.
health and fitness
You may be drawn to yoga simply for health and fitness, or be seeking relief for a specific physical condition. You might want help with managing stress, or would like pregnancy yoga classes or exercises suitable for the less able-bodied. Whatever your objectives, there are yoga classes that can meet them. Yoga is for everybody, my father began his journey with yoga at the young age of 79 years and my 3 girls all began their yoga at the tender age of 6 weeks old.By making yoga a part of your daily routine, you may become aware of subtle changes in your approach to life. In your yoga class you may well begin to glimpse a state of inner peace...your true Nature.

Workshop Schedule
Friday Evening Asana Practice | Aug 28th 6pm-9pm. 50Euro
Our Flexible, Spiraling Core
This will be a practice-oriented session that will explore the experience of the ‘Core’ in asana, and how it empowers our poses. At the heart of this, we find the sacrum, and a central benefit of this experience is to learn how to take good care of our sacroiliac joints — to move with greater fluidity, stability, and less low back pain. We’ll look at the relationship between the health of our sacral joints and low back — and how to recognize imbalances between the two sides of the sacrum which so often make the two sides of the body work so differently!
Saturday 10am-1pm. 60Euro
Timing is Everything
Understanding the Firing Order of Muscles Along Functional Lines in Asana Practice‘Sequencing’ is how we string poses together into a ‘flow’ or vinyasa that makes sense, makes the body feel good, and takes us deeper into the poses. But it is more than how well poses fit together: the inner wisdom of sequencing has to do with teaching the muscles to work together in the proper order in the body, to best support and protect the spine and joints of the legs and arms.Pain or injury often results from ‘skipping over’ or not using a key muscle — such as, for example, the gluteals — and relying too much on other muscles. This session will be an experiential exploration of the functional lines of movement that provide the core of effective asana practice, and a clear understanding of the ‘firing order’ of muscles we need to recruit along those lines to keep our asanas ‘firing on all cylinders!
Saturday 2-4pm. 40Euro
Fine-tuning the Shoulders
We’ll cover the main actions of the shoulders in simple terms as they work in the fundamental asanas, and then go on to explore the shoulders in greater depth, fine-tuning their actions. We will break down the fundamental muscles involved in all ranges of shoulder movement (and relate them to all types of poses), as well as exercises for improving their function and coordination, and applications and variations in poses. We’ll also look at some of the most common types of injuries and common types of movement patterns that interfere with freedom of movement — and how fundamental principles for shoulder work in asana can help us work through them.
Sunday 10-1. 60Euro
A Complete Practice — with Love for the Psoas
Hips and Hamstrings! This practice session will pull together the ideas from the weekend, and also explore issues of the psoas, hips and hamstrings more deeply. Why are hamstrings important, and why (and how) do we ‘open’ our hips? What is the role of the psoas in this, and how do we recognize pain problems stemming from the psoas? We’ll look further at the relationship between the health of our sacral joints and low back, the strength and flexibility of our hips and hamstrings, and the central role of the psoas. Our main emphasis will be on practical ways to balance strength and flexibility in these muscles in asana, especially for the sake of low back health — and we’ll be tying in the role of the arms and shoulders in low back health, to make it a well-rounded practice!
Sunday 2-4 40Euro
Fine-tuning the Neck — and Applications in Pranayama, Meditation and Yoga Nidra
Much of the subtlest and most profound work in yoga — in breath and meditation, as well as in asana — has to do with the neck in connection with all of the actions of the senses: gaze. tongue, breath and so on. We’re only beginning to understand the implications for health and well-being in terms of the effects upon the principle cranial nerves and the vagus nerve in particular. In simple and accessible ways, we’ll explore these subtleties with the help of simple exercises joining small neck and shoulder exercises that incorporate gaze and breath, which can then be expanded into principles for centered breathing/pranayama, meditation and Yoga Nidra.

My Story
Hi my name is Helen Rich. I was born Helen O'Sullivan in Lahinch, Co.Clare. After finishing school in Lahinch & Ennistymon I then went to work in London. I took up yoga classes in 1996 the effect was electric: optimism and energy. I went on various yoga retreats and yoga workshops all over the world, experiencing many styles of yoga. Yoga has been a sustaining and integral part of my life ever since. Newly energised but still naive, I went on to study yoga further in 2000, I did my 3 year 500 hour teaching diploma with British Wheel Of Yoga who are recognised and respected worldwide, where safety of students is first and foremost.
I married my husband James in 2006 and became Helen Rich. In June 2007 my daughter Milly was born, in October 2008 my daughter Siabh entered the world and in March 2010 I was blessed with another girl Ellsie.During my time in England, I spent a lot of time travelling abroad, I ventured high and low, I climbed Mount Kilimanjaro for Dreamflight (a charity which gives kids with terminal illness the trip of a life time). I travelled down to New Zealand and lived in my station wagon admiring the beautiful country as I went, I have been very lucky to see so many beautiful countries. One of the places, which inspired me to yoga, was South India. Still living in the hustle and bustle of London I found myself drawn back to Kerala -India to do more yoga.
Before doing yoga I found myself with constant lower back pain, which doctors could not cure. The only thing that worked for me was yoga, so I started to attend regular classes whilst in London. My love for yoga grew. I wanted to get more knowledge of yoga, I began to go on retreats in various countries around the world, I got interested in the different styles of yoga. I do not believe in the supremacy of one style of Yoga over another: different styles suit different people, temperaments, body-types and conditions. The practice of Yoga - Hatha Yoga, Karma Yoga, Raja Yoga or Bhakti Yoga - means nothing if it does not develop the basic qualities of consideration, compassion, self-knowledge and a recognition that there is a higher force than we can contradict at work within the play of this world.
I decided to do my teaching diploma with British Wheel Of Yoga as they are recognised world wide and a major part of teaching with BWOY is safety for your students. After completing my 3-year diploma in Yoga, with Monica Burton - British Wheel of Yoga , I began teaching in the U.K. The demand for my classes was quiet high.I found a large mix of people wanting different things, some students wanted to be more challenged in Asana's (posture work) while some students wanted more meditation, I also had older students which preferred a slower pace. I decided to cater for individuals needs and go onto study further i.e.B.W.O.Y Yoga for the 3 Age module(Monica Burton) and B.W.O.Y. Pregnancy Yoga module, I did this with Wendy Teasdill and also went to workshops by Uma Dinsmore-Tuli.A few years later I went of to do Yoga For Kids Diploma,in Dublin with Rainbow Yoga For Kids, and Mother and Baby module. I have been very lucky to have attended workshops with John Stirk, Peter Blackably, Gary Carter and Dr. Ruth Gilmore. In 2011 completed Yoga & Anatomy with Paul Fox and Dr.Ruth Gilmore. In 2012 I completed my training for Yoga For Healthy Lower Back. In 2013 it seemed like natural progression to go on and do the Tutor Training for Foundation Courses, so I can now offer serious students BWOY Foundation Course which is compulsory if you wish to go on and become a BWOY Teacher. I can now specialise in the various fields to suit all my clients as I continue to grow.
All the places I have been there is no where like home, the lovely Cliffs Of Moher just a few miles away, the Burren right on our doorstep. I returned home to Lahinch, Co.Clare, by the sea after baby Siabh was born and starting teaching privately and in various gyms around the county. I then set up my own yoga studio Lahinch Yoga Studio, the first and only yoga studio in Lahinch, I teach classes daily catering for visitors and locals alike.
